Independent Clause Or Main Clause

An independent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and verb and gives a complete thought. (An independent clause gives a complete sense which does not depend on any dependent clause.)

For Example:

Victoria studied at home for her exam.

Dependent Clause or Sub-ordinate Clause

A dependent clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb but does not give a complete thought. (A dependent clause cannot be a sentence which depends on Independent Clause. 

For example:

After Victoria had gone to school, she wrote the exam.
