Exercise 1: Change the following sentences into reported speech:

"I am going to the store," said Ram.

"I have never been to Paris before," said Charu.

"I will come and visit you soon," said Kamala.

"I love playing basketball," said Murali.

"I have to finish my homework tonight," said Stella.


Answers:

Ram said he was going to the store.

Charu said she had never been to Paris before.

Kamala said she would come and visit soon.

Murali said he loved playing basketball.

Stella said she had to finish her homework tonight.


Exercise 2: Convert the following conversation into reported speech:

Person A: "I'm so happy to see you again!"

Person B: "I'm glad to be back. How have you been?"

Person A: "I've been doing well. How was your trip?"

Person B: "It was great. I visited several different cities and saw some amazing sights."

Answer:

Person A said she was happy to see Person B again. Person B replied that he was glad to be back and asked how Person A had been. Person A responded that she had been doing well and asked how Person B's trip had been. Person B said it had been great and that he had visited several different cities and seen some amazing sights.

Exercise 3: Rewrite the following sentences in the reported speech:

"I can't come to the party," said Mala.

"I have already eaten," said Swamy.

"I will call you later," said Danalakshmi.

"I am not feeling well today," said Raju.

"I am sorry for being late," said Victoria.

Answers:

Mala said she couldn't come to the party.

Swamy said he had already eaten.

Danalakshmi said she would call later.

Raju said he wasn't feeling well that day.

Victoria said she was sorry for being late.

Exercise 4: Convert the following conversation into reported speech:

Person A: "I heard that you got a new job. Congratulations!"

Person B: "Yes, I did. I start next week."

Person A: "That's great news. What kind of job is it?"

Person B: "It's a marketing position at a tech company."

Answer:

Person A congratulated Person B on getting a new job. Person B confirmed that they had indeed gotten a new job and were starting next week. Person A expressed happiness at the news and asked what kind of job it was. Person B replied that it was a marketing position at a tech company.

"I am meeting my friends tonight," said Rachel.

"I have never been skiing before," said Peter.

Answers:

Rachel said she was meeting her friends tonight.

Peter said he had never been skiing before.

Person A: "Did you watch the new movie that came out last week?"

Answer:

Person A asked if Person B had watched the new movie that had come out last week. Person B confirmed that they had and said it was really good. Person A asked what the movie was about. Person B replied that it was a romantic comedy about two people who met by chance and fell in love.

Junaid said he was really tired.

Sirisha said she had already finished her homework.

Exercise 8: Convert the following conversation into reported speech:

Person A: "What are your plans for the weekend?"

Person B: "I am going to visit my grandparents. They live in the countryside."

Person A: "That sounds like a nice trip. How long will you be gone?"

Person B: "Just for the weekend. I will be back on Sunday night."

Answer:

Person A asked what Person B's plans were for the weekend. Person B replied that they were going to visit their grandparents who lived in the countryside. Person A commented that it sounded like a nice trip and asked how long Person B would be gone. Person B replied that they would only be gone for the weekend and would be back on Sunday night.
