Mr. Hari Charan Vasudha is presently doing 9th
standard in Sri Kakatiya Merit School, Bhimavaram. Andhra Pradesh. He has developed
interest in writing short stories in English for the past four years. Apart
from Story writing, he is interested in music. Both his parents are teachers.
The present short story titled ‘As you sow so you reap’ is his fourth story.
Once upon a time there was a town. There lived a boy named
RAMU. He was the only son to his parents. He was brought up by his parents with
love and care. But he was not interested in studies. In school, he used to play
and make fun of others. His father was a daily laborer in a factory and his
mother was a home maker. The parents always encouraged their son Ramu to study
well. They also told him about the importance of education and benefits of
being educated. But he never listened to them and wasted his time by playing
and enjoying with friends. Even when he was grown up, he didn’t realize the
importance of education.

After a few years, his father died unexpectedly. The
family was in a great trouble. Ramu’s mother was uneducated so she could not do
any job. She started working as house maid in one or two houses and supported
the family. Even then also, Ramu was not responsible towards the family. He ate
and enjoyed life aimlessly.
After a few years, Ramu’s mother became sick. She was
unable to work and earn money. Then Ramu was forced to work. He searched for
job .But nobody offered him job as he didn’t have proper education. After
struggling for many days, at last, he got a job in an office as an office boy.
It was very difficult for him to work as he was lazy for many years. But he was
forced to work as he had no other choice. He was earning a little amount of
money as salary and was supporting his family. He took care of his mother and
provided her good treatment.

One day in the office, his boss told that there would
be an important meeting the next day. Ramu got up early and attended the work.
Some guests came to the office and there was a meeting. As the meeting was
going on, Ramu, the office boy, had to serve snacks and coffee to the guests.
When he entered the room, he was surprised to find the guests. The guests were
his classmates during his childhood. All these are now in a good position.
They
were in nice suit and discussing business related issues. But Ramu is in the
dress of an attender. Ramu could not even understand their language or the
subject, as he didn’t have proper education. One of his friends identified him
and greeted him. Ramu felt very bad for his position. But his friends were so
friendly to him and treated him equally. They respected Ramu even though he was
working as an office boy. On that night Ramu felt very bad for his position. He
was so sorry for not paying interest in education during his early days. He
wept the whole night but he can’t bring back the time. As you sow, so you reap.
